Am I ready for the city again I don't know. Looks like this will be my last area right in time for the summer. 42 degrees celcius is the average there oh no. I'm excited though cause now there is a much better chance to go see the Clarks sealed in the Temple. This is going to be great though. Every transfer just means more to learn. I feel lucky cause I have got to know so many places in Utah and meet so many people. I have learned a lot so far I love this place.

Hey,

In our area we spent time at a couple rehabs helping people there. It has been great and I really love the people there. They are taking the steps to change and that is respectable. The program they go through last 90 days. In 90 days they can turn the greatest weakness into a steadfast and immovable strength. 90 days is a long time. You can do a lot can't you? I was thinking about the people who i have seen come and go. 90 days can change your life.

I'm at my 21 month mark. That means 3 months or 90 days till I return home... I want these last 90 to be a sprint and a strong finish. I'm still going to do so much good.

Interesting things going on this week. We were on our way out of McDonalds and a lady tells us that a boy has been run over. She said to go see if he needs a blessing. We went on over and he was still under the truck. It was a Ford F350 and he was still under it. The Dad came up to ask and asked if we could give him a blessing. We went into the ambulance with him and gave him one. He was a 10 year old and he was in bad shape. We hadn't heard anything about his condition so we are praying the little guy is okay. It was a experience for sure I hope he is okay though.

We are getting things going in our new area. Elder Manuma is awesome. I'm a big fan.

Hey Quick note. New area MT Pleasant North is really starting to work out. My Comp Is Elder Manuma from Hawaii. He is pure Polynesian and we get along great. He was originally called to New Zealand Samoan speaking but due to visa issues he has been reassigned to St George. He is happy to serve and it is great going through the whole training process with him. He has no need to be trained cause he is powerful and good to go. I really rely on him and great things are happening.

President Uchtdorf spoke there on sunday and we asked the people who attended if they noticed how white and clean the benches were. It was so fun we got to go to the top and see everything. That is by far my favorite Temple and the 5th time I have been there.

This was a week of victory. You may ask why and that is cause I learned how to do a Rubix Cube. This was one of those things I just accepted that I would never be able to conquer and only asians would be able to do in my eyes. It took me a week but I can now solve one in a little under 3 minutes!

I feel like my mission to a point has resembled an attempted Rubix Cube... or maybe just my life for that matter. At first a mission looks really complicated and impossible to solve on your own. Slowly you learn how things work and where red cubes go blue cubes ect. It takes time and effort but ounce you understand how things work with the help of others guiding you along it doesn't seem so bad. The mission is really flying by and I'm learning how to solve my mission better and with more ease. Still hard work but at least I'm confident in the Spirit now. Still not perfect either but I recognize the need for improvement and that process will take my whole life to be perfect example of Christ.

Elder Bautista and I get along great. I have an excuse to go to Sweden now. He longboards to and just on that alone we are great friends. Also he is a great teacher. We teach in unity and really get the job done.

Hi,

Elder Bautista and I finally have this area down. The area has lots of potential. We are going to make it grow. We talked to President and the goal is to split the area. We have quite a few people we are seeing and some are getting Baptized in the next two weeks. The past 2 weeks has flown by and lots is happening. I'm getting up to my 18th month mark and that is really scaring me! I honestly don't want it to end.

On our way from Moroni to Mt Pleasant we almost got in a car accident. I was driving the speed limit (55mph) and at the very last second I saw some black cows crossing the road. I slammed on the brakes and pulled of on the shoulder just in time. There was another car that did the same thing just before we got there. I pulled off behind them. Just as we did a car coming in the opposite direction didn't slow down and slammed through 2 cows! The sound when something like this VROOOMMM...PLUUUISHHHCK!!! Elder Bautista and I looked at eachother and couldn't believe what we saw. The lady in the car was okay but the car was destroyed. It was hard not to laugh cause just a minute before we were talking about how fun it would be to go cow tipping... umm this beat it hands down haha. It was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. The one cow survived and the other didn't do so hot, blood everywhere it was a scene. we went over to take a picture of the injured cow laying on the side of the road and it stood up! The one lady asked if it was okay to which Elder Bautista responed "it's Pooping!" I was like woah it scared the poop out of him. The injured cow didn't sound so happy. It was amazing and everyone was okay except for the one cow. If you want some ground beef it should be on the way.

Well it finally happened I get to stay! First time being in an area longer then three months it's pretty nice that I don't have to pack. Elder Chadsey is going and I'm getting Elder Beach. That is about all I know.

This week was good. The Clarks came and saw me which was awesome. They don't live to far so they came to visit. It is always nice to see them they are a second family to me. Sean their oldest came to. He is sort of girl crazy but to his credit he is 18. He seemed way to into the idea of more then one girl at a time. We all laughed. Anyways so nice to see all of them!

We rang in the new year with Elder Harlan and Elder Ware. For us three 2012 is going to be a huge deal. We all come home this year. Crazy eh?

I might be moving out of the Cane Beds though. President wants to move us to either Fredonia or Kanab. Either is okay though.

That was my week. We are praying for new people to teach. Our ward mission leaders are pretty awesome and we have started to really work together and make things happen.

I got a card from Ed and Pat. This is when you realize you have been gone awhile. I taught Ed and Pat in Castle Dale about 15 months ago. Ed is older and called the bishop one day asking to be baptized. He is in his 70's. His wife was a less active member. We taught them and they were golden and such wonderful people. What Pat told me is that Her and her husband Ed had gone through the Manti Temple recently and been sealed together for time and all eternity... Insert a massive jump for joy and leaps of excitement and that was me. Wow that was a long time ago and so much has happened for them. That was one of the highlights of my mission. Saying goodbye to them was so hard but Ed was ready for baptism he was committed and Elder Doane and I had a great friendship with them. I really Love Ed and Pat.

Christmas season is in full swing and we have many Christmas parties and activities to attend. Elder Chadsey and I were able to be part of the annual Christmas Parade in Fredonia. Not a big deal but it was fun. We rode on a truck with lights and wore Santa hats as we waved to all the people. The Bunting family took us around. It was fun. We had to of the kids walk along side and pass out a ton of pass along cards the cool ones that promote Mormon.org. The mission has told us to flood the earth with Mormon.org cards so that is exactly what we did. As Elder Harlan says a very seasoned missionary parade veteran he says "parades bring baptisms." The phone hasn't exactly been ringing off the hook but hey who knows.

This week we had a neat experience with an investigator the other missionaries were teaching. Elder Ware was feeling pretty sick and had to stay in the apartment. We decided it might be nice to help Elder Harlen for a bit cause they had some appointments. We ended up seeing a man they had been teaching from Puerto Rico and about 50 years old. Don't ask me to spell his name Lets call him brother Pico for right now. Brother Pico had been taught everything and was awaiting his answer to joined the Church. We had no lesson plan going in but ended up having an amazing lesson. He felt the spirit so strong as all three of us bore our testimonies to him. We all left with a good feeling and new that Baptism was in his future. He was the funniest and nicest guy. He was Catholic and super spiritual. He knew his stuff. He explained to us he hadn't got the green light yet and was more on the Yellow/red area. He called the other missionaries the next day and said "Elders I've got the green light!" His baptism was the very next day. He was prepared and it was a blessing to be able to teach him. I wish he was ours! We went to the baptism and we were able to recount the last days experience with him and share again our testimonies and how grateful we were to be part of his conversion. His baptism was great. The water was cold but it didn't phase him Elder Ware a little but not Brother Pico.

I'm a little sick with the cold right now cause after the lesson we didn't have a car. The other missionaries had to put ti in the shop. the only ride we could get was from someone on a Ryno. The Ryno is kind of like a cross between a jeep and a Quad. It has for seats and sound like a ferocious lawnmower. Anyways we didn't have jackets and as fun as it was we were cold. The Ryno was even decorated for a parade in Kanab they had earlier that week. It was a priest who drove us around on it. We must have looked ridiculous 4 guys in shirts and ties riding from appointment to appointment on a decorated Ryno. It was fun but know I have a cold ugh.

Well that is about the week. Hi,

Interesting week to say the least. If there was ever a week you wanted to experience the ups and downs of missionary work this was it. It had everything some things better then others.

The first and most unfortunate event that occur ed was a friend Sister Meta Lindsley passed away. She was in her 60's and our neighbor. We spent quite a bit of time over at her house visiting with her. She herself was a saint there were always non members at her house and she was one of those do anything for anyone type people. Elder Chadsey and myself grew to Love her very much. It was a sad day we had seen her a few weeks ago and the very next day we stopped by again and learned she was in the hospital. She was in St George and we were not able to see her cause she was so far out of our area. Thankfully this last week the mission had a zone conference and after we were able to go see Sister Meta. We had been so worried these 3 weeks and we were finally able to see her. She was in unconscious when we were there but her daughter assured us she new we were there.. We came with her Daughter and son. She was in the ICU and not looking so good. We had the opportunity to give her a blessing and it was definitely from God. She is in a much better place and I know she is better. Never thought I would have to deal with a death of someone very close on my mission. She was a friend and was so nice. She lent me her guitar so I could learn to play and sing her a song. Hopefully guitars are in Heaven to and I can follow through on my promise one day. I know the Plan of Salvation is real and this was all part of God's plan for us. We loved Sister Meta a lot sad to see her go.

We had many Miracles this week as well. Last night our appointment canceled and we got back to Kanab out of things to do. We parked behind the pizza hut to figure out our next move. it was about 8. we were in the deepest thought possible when you are smelling those sweet smells pizza hut has to offer. The phone rang and it was the other missionaries. they were with someone who Elder Harlan and Elder Ware had taught before and told us she was finally ready to be baptized. We had time right then so we rushed over. Her name is Carrie and she is ready. she is in her 30's and after a year and a half is ready finally to be baptized. She only has to quit smoking and we gave her a blessing to help with that. It was a miracle.

Another miracle was amazing on happened on our way to zone conference. Elder Harlan had ripped his pants in the back super bad! He was in a desperate situation you might say. Luckily I remembered I had a thread and needle in my backpack. Elder Harlan was relieved and was able to fix his pants on the 1 hour drive down. I didn't know why I still had the needle and thread in my backpack but I kept it there just in case. I guess that is how Nephi felt when the Lord told him to make a separate set of plates because the Lord knew Martin Harris would thousands of years later lose the 116 pages of the Book of Mormon manuscript. Nephi didn't know why he needed to make another record but he obeyed so things later in history would work out. Because Nephi kept the other record we the Book of Mormon could be completed. Haha I hope that made sense cause thats how we all felt in the car. It was silly but a miracle none the less.

Transfer calls came and Elder Chadsey and me are going to go be the next AP'S! Just kidding we are staying here in the Cane Beds. Haha I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. It's hard enough getting enough sleep as a regular missionary and I know the AP'S get less. That is reason enough to not want to be one. Being just a regular missionary is nice cause you don't have to worry about other missionaries you get focus 100% on your investigators and area. It's nice to be able to put your head down and go to work.

I'm happy I get to stay here it helps with investigator trust when they are not constantly having to spill their soul and life story to a new stranger every 6 weeks.

This week we found a new investigator named Phillip. He is a former member of the FLDS. He lives in Kanab and his girlfriend called us last week. This was a true blessing cause being the holidays lots of people cancelled on us. His girlfriend just called and said " Hey my Boyfriend wants to be Baptized. When can you come over?" we started teaching them and they are coming along well. When you have an FLDS back round one of the 12 Apostles has to interview you so it's kind of a big deal. He is doing great though.

Today we are going on a hike with our favorite non member Red Bear. He is our neighbor. He isn't one to hear about the Church but he loves to hang out with us on mondays. He is going to take us out hiking today. Red Bear is a funny guy one of a kind for sure. I'm excited for a hike and so is my waistline.

This is the last Thanksgiving and Christmas that I will have as a missionary. These holidays scare me the most cause I only have one belt loop on my belt left... It's not that bad I only had three left to begin with. Hopefully some snow will show up soon. It's still short sleeve shirt weather.

Still not much to report other then the baptisms last week. Victor and Mekyle did great they had flawless baptisms. They are going to be awesome missionaries one day. They are already sharing it with their friends. Elder Chadsey and I are so Proud.

Still same old same old here. We have been tracking a lot and praying for miracles so I'm sure they are on the way.

The Church is True
143 Family
Elder Ian Dyer Alisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00059356992609399288noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5453953345848286097.post-52082410162698889882011-11-14T14:24:00.001-08:002011-11-14T14:24:06.282-08:00Kids These DaysHi,

I'm late to emails so here is just a quick note.

Mekyle and Victor are getting baptized on Saturday. Always check the irons setting before you iron your pants. My Favorite pants are now in the trash sad day. The iron melted them but it is okay cause I found some replacements in the thrift store to day for 1 dollar that should hold me over quite nicely.

Today we decided to spend prep day in Kanab with the other Elders. One of them is Elder Ware who I came out of the mtc with. It nice to be able to hang around him cause we get along good. We all decided to go to the best friends pet sanctuary and go on a free tour. It was kind of cool but its odd to be in a place where most people there believe in putting the needs of animals above our human needs. It was still nice to go and play with some dogs. They brought out this one I can't remember what his name was but he was a cross between a Lab and a Baset Hound. He looked like a giant weiner dog. He was my favorite. It was cool they drove us around and showed us the place its the largest animal sanctuary in the country I think is what the tour guide said. They animals have a pretty nice place some cats have a room bigger then I ever had back home. I like Dogs and everything but some people just go way to far. They have a creepy pet cemetery to that they showed us. I definitely want a Dog one day but I'm not going to be strange about it.

This week was quiet we didn't do to much for halloween. We just hung out with the ward cause we were not allowed to go out and teach that night. Missionaries aren't allowed out on halloween here unless they ask permission for a ward activity. We probably could have just gone to Colorado City cause they don't celebrate it at all there.

The other day we ate at the local Colorado City hot spot the Mary Wives Cafe. Yep no Joke that is the name. The have a sweet menu. One of the sandwiches is named the Shadrack. It led me to wonder where the Meshack and Abendigo Sandwiches were. Its a Bible reference.

This week we have been working our butts of to find new people to teach and we haven't been to successful lately. The people we are teaching right now are pretty solid. One of my Favorites is Mekyle and Victor. They are brothers about 10 and 13 years old. They live with their Grandparents who are less active and they are great to teach. The Grandma doesn't like that the two brothers fight and wrestle alot. They say it's how they show their love. That sounds familiar cause that is the same cause in my family. I clearly remember Alison breaking Dad's rib once and a wrestling match after every family dinner. Anyways it was funny and they are a great family who are great people and progressing in the gospel so well. We are praying a lot to find more people and I know the Lord will provide.

Sounds like everything is going well at home. I can't believe Alison is moving! I'm gonna miss her a lot.

143 Family
The Church is True
Elder Ian DyerAlisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00059356992609399288noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5453953345848286097.post-55093322113552474472011-10-24T11:03:00.001-07:002011-10-24T11:03:30.691-07:00Raw MilkGreetings form the Red Planet... I mean Arizona,

For some reason milk transitions have been fun and interesting in my mind. When I came out I was all about the 2% milk then when I was out 6 months Elder Smith and me dropped to skim milk. New harmony with Elder Toropainen We had 1% together. Now in Colorado City Elder Chadsy and I do the Raw Milk!!! Thats milk straight from the cow with all that unpasteurized goodness you expect. It makes frosted flakes even better yum. It's like whole milk from Heaven except its from Colorado City. The dairy they have there is pretty popular people come from all over to get ice cream, cheese , and milk ect. At one time recently the FLDS Church excommunicated the members running the dairy because they were not paying enough tithing. Its funny cause when the dairy closed down the towns folk got all upset and protested till the members were brought back into the Church and the dairy was opened again. The same thing happened to the produce store but there was less protesting... I guess Colorado City doesn't like it's veggies. Hopefully I'm not the only one interested by this. This place is still odd to me haven't quite got used to it. Love the milk though.

Working with former members of the FLDS Church is difficult. Most have lots of trouble giving up their old beliefs. Our Mission President interviewed one of our current investigators and told us for lack of better terms she has been brainwashed. Most have trouble with the thought of being rebaptized cause they feel their other Baptism was valid. Its hard to get across the the restored Priesthood only exists in the LDS Church. A lot of people have trouble with that. I'm thankful though we have some of Kanab in our area cause it's nice to go back to normal missionary work a few days a week. However I'm very thankful for this learning experience.

This week was really slow seemed like every door we knocked we were rejected. This transfers motto for Elder Chadsy and me is 'Roll with the punches." We were feeling pretty low this week but that means the only direction to move is up and I'm positive that's where we are heading.

The Church is True
143 Family
Elder Ian Dyer

Ps Grandma we found our snake warren a home so don't worry I don't have one anymoreAlisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00059356992609399288noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5453953345848286097.post-17012954564501782472011-10-17T20:18:00.001-07:002011-10-17T20:18:36.525-07:00Onward to Arizona... Huh?

Hello,

Yep I have that amazing luck where I got transfered again. I've stopped caring about it. One area that lasts more then three months would be nice but I really don't know how to make that happen.

Well This transfer took me to Arizona the Cane Beds area. We cover Colorado City, Moccasin, Fredonia, and south Kanab. My Companion is Elder Chadsy from McAlester Oklahoma. He has been out 6 months and is a great compainon we already bonded over morning zombies in Cedar City. That was when we played with nerf guns in the morning. He is pretty awesome and I'm happy we are taking on the task that is this area with Elder Chadsy at my side.

Our area is unique to say the least. We are the Only missionaries in our mission who live in Arizona! That's awesome because we have the Grand Canyon somewhat close to us. P Day plans to see it are underway. Hopefully our trip will be better then the one Dad and Grandma Dyer took one year.

Another thing is we cover Colorado City. If you don't know the significance of this city its pretty much the head base for the FLDS church. That is the Polygamist break off group of the LDS church in which they have no association with. The work there has increased ever since Warren Jeffs their alleged Prophet has been put away for in prison for life and then some for various crimes that are disgusting. Nothing in my whole experience as a missionary has really prepared me for that city. The time I'm there I feel a lump in my throat that I can't get out it's different. It hurts to be there and gets worse the more I know about it. I'm grateful that I'm there to help people who are lost. This last week I've read alot of material on this place and this religion. I just want to Let you know The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints is the true Church and Thomas S Monson is a true Prophet of God. I can't wait to do more good especially here. This place needs Love and atention. being here to help is a once in a lifetime experience.

The Church is true

143 Family Happy Thanksgiving

PS sorry Grandma but we found a snake yesterday and are keeping him as a pet. He is the best snake ever we named him Warren Jeffs.
Alisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00059356992609399288noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5453953345848286097.post-30372252273826076122011-10-03T16:10:00.000-07:002011-10-03T16:10:38.338-07:00FORE!!!Hi,
Since being a missionary it feels like you have a million things on your brain all the time 24/7. Dad knows that I'm terrible at remembering things. when I'm multitasking I'm bound to forget one or two of the said tasks. That's why Missionaries don't come solo lone wolf style they need a companion to help them out and that companion needs you just as much as you need them. It's nice have help. Twice a week the Spanish speaking missionaries stay with us. Elders Vite and Matthews are fun to have around. Together we have got pretty addicted to playing chess. I have realized if I lose a game it's almost always my fault. You have to keep track of so many things and it's easy to make one slip up that can cost you the game. I was playing Elder Vite and I wasn't feeling very confident in that particular game. Elder Schmidt was watching us play and he decided to step in and lend me a hand. The game changed and a few minutes later Elder Vite found himself in Checkmate. I learned again the value of a companion not just in Chess but in life and right know missionary work especially. It's nice when someone has your back and that is why Heavenly Father has allowed us to have the gift of the Holy Ghost to lead and guide us throughout our lives. If we heed it's promptings we will never have a reason to fear or lose our way.

This week was great! There was a Temple trip up to Manti this week. I love that place! Brother Poulson was there and that made my day I love that guy. He says he reads my blog every week so I hope he considers this a shout out.

The other great thing was just the people we are able to teach. Hi,

First of have to say how happy I am for Alison and Ray. Congrats on the new baby boy Warren. He is gonna be a cool kid. Ray and Me will make sure he is an awesome longboarder... Don't worry he will wear his helmet though. It's almost unbelievable that there are some new additions to our family. Being away it could almost just be one elaborate prank that I'm not in on. Haha but I know that's not true.I'm really exctied to meet them one day. Ray and Alison will make awesome parents I'm proud of you guys.

My new Companion is pretty good his name is Elder Schmidt from Missouri. He has been out 5 months and his last companion was my old companion Elder Prusse. Let's just say he is happy that's over and umm I don't blame him.

Well It was my Year mark the other day... Ugh that is weird. My comp reminded me that I can now say this time next year I'll be home. That isn't the most exciting thing in the world though sorry family. I love being out here and now the countdown has begun so at the moment that is a little unsettling. Better make this year even better then the last.

There has seemed to be an even more sense of happiness and fulfillment this week as we have been able to find more people and help them. It's fun making a positive impact on peoples live just by sharing a testimony.

The other day we had a neat experience with the Lord leading us to someone to teach. IT was sunday night and we didn't think we had a dinner appointment. We endend up eating somewhere else and shortly after we had a call telling us that we did have one after all. We were not that excited because because we just ate. We went anyways and were not going to stay for long. To our delight though they had made fench toast so it wasn't to bad to eat a little more. Breakfast for dinner is always a good choice. We stayed a little while and shared a scripture then asked if they new any nonmembers we could teach. Everyone in the room stopped and looked at Brad. He is about 30 and from Chicago. His wife is a member and so are his inlaws. His little girl is about to turn 8 and she wants to get baptized. His ittle boy was just blessed in Church to. We asked him if we could start teaching him and he said "You know my family is getting to that point and 'm thinking I should probably be there to." Brad is great. We went Geocaching with him the other day. His family is really into that.
